The origin of the Masses

From the end of the 17th century until the opening of the new Saint Nicholas Church in 1887, Masses were held in Ons’ Lieve Heer op Solder (Our Lord in the Attic), as well as marriages, baptisms and mourning. A year later, the Attic church was given a new purpose as a museum. Since 1951, church services for artists have been held in the chapel on a regular basis. Catholic artists such as glaziers, painters, sculptors, musicians and writers found their spiritual shelter here. Gradually, this target group was replaced by people who felt attracted by the historic building, the professional music and preaching. For example, with the exception of the summer months, the original destination of this museum is cherished with love in this museum on every first Sunday of the month and at Christmas.
