Our Lord in the Attic Museum is a wonderful place, in the heart of Amsterdam’s city centre, hidden in a centuries-old canal house with a complete church in the attic. The museum is constantly looking for ways to connect religious heritage with social themes. Our new research programme has been launched in november 2022.
Together with the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam, Faculty of Religion and Theology, we will develop an interactive web environment about religious groups in Amsterdam, then and now. Students, researchers, heritage professionals and volunteers are working on a new religious map of the city. Buildings, locations and objects are linked to a network of people and their religious beliefs and emotions. Each building and each location is illustrated by three objects that tell the story of the place they exemplify. The result is a vibrant reflection of religious life in Amsterdam in all its diversity.
