FLOWERS OF MEANING

March 26, 2020 to August 31, 2020

In times of the coronavirus and quarantine, Our Lord in the Attic Museum has started a small online tour of the meaningful flowers from our collection. At the moment you can follow this tour online on our website and social media, as well as in the museum.

Flowers are loved for their beauty. Their shape and color inspire artists to portray them lifelike and in all kinds of compositions. In seventeenth-century paintings, many flowers have a symbolic or religious meaning. They are depicted not only because they are so beautiful, but also because they convey a message. In this way they can remind people of their mortality or shortcomings or, on the contrary, encourage them to live a devout and pure life. In the coming weeks we will take you through the different meanings that flowers, and even insects, can have.

Click here for the overview (updated weekly). Or book your visit and come and see the works of art for yourself.
