The Spirit of Amsterdam
Walk with us through another Amsterdam
For centuries, Amsterdam has been a meeting place for people from all parts of the world.
They brought their own religions, cultures and rituals, which gave the city its unique
character.
This rich, religious diversity can still be seen in the cityscape.
In honor of Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary, we present a digital map of the city’s religious heritage: The Other Map of Amsterdam.
This map tells the story of all religious communities, both past and present.
Walks, photos, films, stories and podcasts offer in-depth insight into these diverse communities.
On Friday 22, Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 November, during The Spirit of Amsterdam, we are organizing a special walking tour of religiously significant locations from this map, which are also participating in the program of The Spirit of Amsterdam. This offers a unique opportunity to discover the city in a whole new way.
