Red Light Jazz Festival 2024

‘An intimate jazz cafe in the museum’

The Red Light Jazz Festival returns to Amsterdam’s city centre for another edition in 2024! This music festival is a real treat for young and old, for both Amsterdam residents and visitors from outside the city. For three days, from morning to night, you can enjoy jazz performances at numerous characteristic locations in and around the bustling Red Light District. This will take you to locations you wouldn’t easily step into in everyday life, or you may encounter musical treats in places where this never normally happens.

Our Lord in the Attic Museum is also taking part in this festival. On Saturday 8 June, we will transform our museum café into an atmospheric jazz café. It promises to be an intimate setting, where you can walk in without a valid ticket and enjoy a cup of coffee while listening to a live performance. The artists will play two sets.

Programme:
11 a.m. the first set – Waking up on the Red Light District
1 p.m. the second set – Ready for the day with this performance

This year, we welcome Iman Spaargaren (tenor saxophone) and Peter Bjørnild (double bass) to Museum Ons’ Lieve Heer Op Solder during the Red Light Jazz Festival. Coming from the Amsterdam (and Danish) music scene, this dynamic duo is known for their lyrical playing and compelling interaction. They will perform a varied repertoire of well-known and lesser-known jazz standards, focusing on musical freedom and intense interplay.

The performers:
Iman Spaargaren (NL) – tenor saxophone
Peter Bjørnild (DK) – double bass

Iman Spaargaren is acclaimed for his excellence in music and his melodious playing on stage. He is a versatile multi-instrumentalist, arranger and composer who in recent years has been active in various musical formations and has performed on major stages around the world.

Peter Bjørnild, from Copenhagen, has an impressive career as a double bass player and producer. He has played and recorded with a wide range of musicians and is known for his virtuoso playing and passion for jazz music.

Don’t miss this unique performance at the Red Light Jazz Festival on Saturday 8 June at Our Lord in the Attic Museum!
