2 MARCH – 7 NOVEMBER 2021
Welcome to the pop-up studio of the fashion label: CRUÈL. Founder and designer William Ampofo (b. 1998) has been attached to the museum since becoming artist in residence for our ‘Fashion at Home’ exhibition. Alongside period costumes from the Rijksmuseum collection, the studio offers a glimpse into today’s world of fashion.
In June 2021, Ampofo completed his mentorship of three MBO Fashion Design students on work-experience placements from Amsterdam’s ROC college. The young designers drew inspiration from our hidden church and historical costumes to develop the special collection items for CRUÈL and the museum displayed here. Their designs explore aspects of form and provide a contemporary perspective on the way clothing can enable a person to express their identity. How free were we in the past to wear whatever we wanted and how free are we today to dress the way we are?
Take a look in our open studio and feel free to wander around; the accompanying film shows how the students worked on their project.
